What is a sample?

A “sample” is the use of a portion of a pre-existing song.  A sample may use a portion of a pre-existing recording of a song (for example, a “clip” from Michael Jackson’s actual recording of “Billie Jean”), or a sample may be a new original recording that sounds like a portion of another song, often called a “sound alike” or a “sample interpolation” (for example, a recording of a new performance using your own instruments that “sounds like” the bass line from “Billie Jean”).

You must have licensed all rights relating to any samples you submit through the Site.
