Chart positions are based on your Band Equity Score. Band Equity Scores are computed using a proprietary algorithm developed by ReverbNation to help measure the breadth and depth of an artist's relationship with fans. The algorithm we use is applied equally to every band on the website to ensure a level playing field. The algorithm measures a range of factors, not merely the statistics visible on artists' profiles. These factors are measured periodically on a rolling basis and reflect the most recent data available for each metric.
Band Equity Scores are by no means a reflection of the total number of any specific metric, but rather they are meant to reflect recent artist engagement. This is similar to how a music popularity chart reflects a song's sales streams/downloads/plays of a song in the most recent measurement period.
If the algorithm focused solely on the total count of a specific metric, artists with the oldest profiles may have an advantage over those who joined recently. We'd like to avoid this result. Unfortunately, because the Band Equity algorithm is proprietary, we do not disclose the factors or the weighting system publicly.
If you are wondering why your chart position has decreased:
- You may be gaining band equity points, but if an artist behind you on the charts has been more active or attained more stats recently, it is possible their score could leapfrog you, despite your score having risen as well. Remember to stay active in promoting your music!
- In order to accumulate chart positions on ReverbNation, a band must be active on ReverbNation. If an inactive band suddenly becomes active, and their total number of band equity points is larger than the number of points you have, then they will appear above you in ranking.
